Licensing and regulation

A licence claim is a fact about a claim until somebody checks the register. This page says which is which.

The claim, quoted

OzzyBet Casino states in its own legal copy that it “operates under E-gaming license No. 0000002 issued by Tobique Gaming Commission”, and that the site is owned and operated by Novatrix SRL, incorporated in Costa Rica with company registration number 3-102-893958.

Two things follow. The corporate detail is unusually specific for an offshore casino and can be looked up. And the gaming permission comes from a different jurisdiction than the company's incorporation, which is a common arrangement and worth understanding rather than fearing.

What tier that is

The Tobique Gaming Commission is associated with the Tobique First Nation and belongs to the smaller, offshore tier of gaming regulators. It is not equivalent in oversight, complaint machinery or player-fund protection to the Malta Gaming Authority, the UK Gambling Commission or a Canadian provincial regulator such as the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.

The claim has also not been verified here against that commission's own register. Until it is, it stands as the operator's statement about itself — which is how it is described on every page of this site, including the review.

Canadian regulation, briefly

Gambling regulation in Canada is provincial rather than federal. Ontario operates a licensed online market with registered operators and its own regulator; other provinces run their own arrangements through provincial corporations. That structure is why OzzyBet's restricted list names Ontario and New Brunswick at province level rather than Canada as a whole — detail on the Canada page.

What an offshore licence means in practice

While everything works, the licence tier is invisible. It becomes visible in a dispute. A top-tier regulator provides a formal complaints route with outcomes an operator must honour; smaller jurisdictions generally offer less. The practical response is not panic but proportion: keep records of balances, withdrawal requests and support conversations, do not leave large sums sitting in any offshore account, and read the bonus terms before depositing rather than after a dispute begins.

How licences are treated on this site

Licence numbers are quoted exactly as published and attributed to whoever published them. No licence is described as “verified” unless a register was actually checked, and no regulator's name is used to imply protection it does not provide. If the Tobique register is checked in a later edition, this page will say so and the corrections policy applies.
